6 benefits of switching to natural deodorants

Putting on deodorant or anti-perspirant is part of our daily lives, much like brushing our teeth. Most of us will have grown up using conventional products, but did you know there are lots of benefits to switching to natural deodorants? They are a popular alternative to conventional deodorants and anti-perspirants that often contain potentially harmful ingredients and there’s plenty of fantastic options on the market. Here are some of the benefits:

1 - They don’t contain harmful chemicals
Natural deodorants are made from natural and organic ingredients that do not contain potentially harmful chemicals such as parabens, aluminium and phthalates.

2 - They reduce body odour – the natural way
Natural deodorants contain natural ingredients such as essential oils, coconut oils, baking soda and arrowroot powder. It’s important to note that natural deodorant doesn’t stop your skin from sweating. Sweat itself doesn’t actually cause body odour, but rather the sweat combined with bacteria already existing on your skin – natural deodorants neutralise the odour using active natural ingredients such as botanicals, rather than chemicals.

3 - They are gentle on the skin
Natural deodorants are generally gentler on the skin than conventional deodorants and are less likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. Plant-based ingredients don’t clog the pores and leave a smooth, moisturising feel. They’re also less likely to leave you with any redness or rashes compared with conventional deodorants and anti-perspirants, so they are a great option if you have sensitive skin or suffer from skin allergies.

4 - They are environmentally friendly
Most natural deodorants are made from sustainable, biodegradable and eco-friendly ingredients, which make them a better choice for the environment. The packaging is also usually eco-friendly, made from either recycled and/or plastic free materials.

5 - They have a more natural fragrance
A far cry from the ‘Spring Blossom’ or ‘Ice cool’ fragrances often found in conventional, synthetic deodorants and anti-perspirants, natural deodorants often come in a variety of scents that are derived from natural sources such as essential oils, which can be more pleasant and personalised.

6 - They’re kinder to your clothes
The aluminium contained in conventional deodorants and anti-perspirants causes dark yellow stains on light clothing. When aluminium mixes with sweat it rubs onto your clothing, leaving marks that are very difficult to remove.

Overall, natural deodorants can be a great alternative to conventional deodorants and anti-perspirants, especially for those with sensitive skin or concerns about potentially harmful chemicals. A high-quality natural or organic deodorant won’t irritate your armpits, leave annoying stains on your clothing, and will keep you smelling fresh all day long.
